As many of you know, LeashLocket, Ltd. will be donating a portion of the proceeds from LeashLocket™ sales to the LeashLocket Animal Shelter, Treatment, Rescue, & Outreach ( ASTRO)  Foundation, a Colorado non-profit company designed to help abused, neglected and lost pets at qualifying shelters nationwide.

We’re not there yet, as LeashLocket™ sales only went live in September. So right now we’re developing our relationships with retailers and distributors, and getting the word to the public that there’s a new, super-strong and ergonomically designed retractable leash in town that lets your dog carry the leash for a change.

In addition to supporting LeashLocket ASTRO Foundation, we’re taking a look at how other organizations work to benefit animals. This week we’d like to pause for a moment to recognize 2 Million Dogs, www.2milliondogs.org, which is staging a Puppy Up! Walk this coming Sunday, November 6, in our home state of Colorado. It’s just one of 20 Puppy Up! walks nationwide on Sunday, and it’s at Stapleton Central Park on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Denver.

As their website says, 2 Million Dogs began with Luke Robinson, a man who embarked with his two dogs, Hudson and Murphy, on a 2,000-mile walk from Austin, TX to Boston, MA. Luke was inspired by the loss of his Great Pyrenees, Malcolm, to cancer, and the three of them walked from town to town, sharing Malcolm’s story and educating people about cancer in dogs. As they built a nationwide grassroots movement, Luke had a vision of 2,000,000 dogs walking simultaneously all across the United States for cancer. After all, if 2 dogs could walk over 2,000 miles surely it was possible!

Today the 2 Million Dogs mission benefits the study of canine cancer and comparative oncology. If you’re in the Denver area, you can be a part of cancer-beating history. Puppy Up! against canine cancer with folks and their pups at Stapleton Central Park from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration and check-in start at 8 a.m., rain or shine, followed by the opening ceremony and walk starting 10:00 a.m. After the walk you and your pup can enjoy vendor booths, demonstrations, music, contests, prizes, food and more until 2 p.m. There’s even a special Puppy Up! Market for pet-friendly and health-related merchandise and services.

Tickets are $30 until the end of November 3, and $35 at the event, but they raise money for a good cause.
